Clients who reach the 80-metre conversation usually arrive with a preference already formed, often based on a friend's yacht and a single evening aboard. Both yards deserve more consideration than that.
Feadship, the Dutch cooperative of Royal Van Lent and De Vries, builds to a craftsmanship standard that the interior industry universally acknowledges as the reference point. The joinery, the hardware, the paint finish, these are measurably better than anywhere else. Delivery timelines run 42-54 months.
Lurssen, the German family yard, specialises in the larger end of the market, 100m+ is routine. Engineering is extraordinary, particularly for clients with complex technical specs (helicopter hangars, submarines, military-grade security provisions). Interiors are subcontracted to the client's chosen studio and vary as a result.
Our advice: if you want the most beautiful yacht, go Feadship. If you want the most technically complete yacht for complex missions, go Lurssen. If you want a boat faster than either can deliver, buy a lightly-used five-year-old hull from us instead.
